Hot to Mention – August 30, 2010
Arcade Fire has released a really cool video. It uses HTML5 and allows you to input your address where you grew up and have the video take place there. It uses Google Maps views and Street View as well as other video and music of course. Check it out here. I think it an only be viewed correctly with Google Chrome who is a partner in the experiment. It is a very clever way to promote Arcade Fire and Google Chrome at the same time.
Cisco may be trying to buy Skype before they file their IPO. This is a rumor and is unconfirmed.
Diaspora is an open source project that aims to take on large social networks and give the user control of the network by decentralizing the social network. The alpha will be launched October. It was started by a group of young guys who raised $200,000 at the beginning of the summer.
